The City of Foster City is asking for the community to partner with us in keeping our City streets safe for all users by exercising caution and following safety protocols on Beach Park Boulevard. Please remember that the bike lanes should only be used by cyclists and the sidewalk is reserved for joggers, walkers, strollers and non-motorized scooters.
The City is aware of a recent incident involving a person using a scooter and a motorist along Beach Park Boulevard where there were no major injuries. In light of this, it is important to remind everyone to use the safety protocols that are in place in the project area.
“We are committed to ensuring public safety during the Levee Improvements Project, and that is our main priority,” said City Manager Peter Pirnejad. “We understand that the construction along Beach Park Boulevard can, at times, be an inconvenience to motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians and we would like to thank the community for their cooperation in following outlined safety measures.”
Below are important safety and traffic tips to keep in mind while in the area:
- The bike lanes are for cyclists only. Posted detours should be utilized as often as possible.
- Pedestrians (non-motorized scooters, rollerbladers, skateboarders) should not jog or walk in the bike lane or the road. Please continue to use the sidewalk along the west side of Beach Park Boulevard. The Foster City Police Department has been increasing patrols and will enforce this measure to help ensure pedestrians remain on the sidewalk.
- Please avoid crossing Beach Park Boulevard mid-block and use caution when using the designated crosswalks.
- Motorists are urged to exercise additional caution when driving along Beach Park Boulevard. The speed limit along Beach Park Boulevard, from Foster City Boulevard to Teal Street, has been reduced to 25 mph for the duration of the project and will be enforced.
Since the Bay Trail is closed during construction, Class II bike lanes have been installed on both sides of Beach Park Boulevard. Class II bike lanes are dedicated striped lanes that provide one-way travel for bicycles on the street. While the bike lanes meet State standards, all road users should stay alert given the changes and activities happening within the construction zone which includes narrower lanes, k-rails on the east and parked cars on the west side of the street. It is imperative that everyone stay aware and follow safety measures along Beach Park Boulevard to avoid any potential conflicts.
