Foster City invites community members to stay involved and updated on the Levee Improvements Project by joining the second Community Update webinar on Saturday, February 6 from 10-11:30 a.m.
Community members are invited to join Foster City staff and a panel of Levee Improvements Project experts for a virtual Community Update on Thursday, January 21, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
To further enhance the safety of bicyclists, runners, pedestrians, and motorists, the City will be reducing the speed limit on a section of Beach Park Boulevard to 25 miles per hour. This change is anticipated to take place as soon as appropriate signage can be installed.
Beginning on Monday, January 11, 2021, Beach Park Boulevard from approximately Foster City Boulevard to Teal Street will be temporarily restriped and reconfigured as part of the Levee Improvements Project.
The planned closure of the Levee Trail from Shorebird Park to the San Mateo Bridge (Phase 2) is expected to take place on or around January 19, 2021 (this is rescheduled from the original date of January 7). This closure is in addition to the existing closure of the Levee Trail from Port Royal Avenue to Shorebird Park (Phase 1).
To maximize public safety, facilitate efficient construction, and maintain the overall project timeline, the Levee Trail from Shorebird Park to just north of the San Mateo Bridge will be closed, beginning on or around January 7, 2021.
On the morning of October 14, 2020, a small group of City staff and dignitaries ceremoniously broke ground on the Foster City Levee Improvements Project! The event marked the official start of this three-year construction project to protect the community from storm and flood hazards, reinforce the levee against earthquake damage, and improve the popular levee trail.
The initial work along the Levee Trail from approximately Port Royal Ave. to Shorebird Park/Halibut St. is expected to commence on October 28, 2020. For public safety and more expedient construction, the 2.5 miles of the Levee Trail in this area will be closed to public use on that date, for at least 10-12 months.
This coming Tuesday, September 29, Shimmick Construction will begin preparing Bridgeview Park for set up of their primary construction office trailers, which will serve as field headquarters for the upcoming Levee Improvements Project.
To maintain public safety and the most efficient construction schedule, the contractor will also close a significant portion of the levee trail to the public for all uses once construction begins.
